Tab Navigation & Views

Exaplay 3 has two levels of tab navigation: the main view tabs in the header bar and the sub-header tabs inside the Main Editor view.

Main tabs, sub-header tabs and per-mode visibility

Main View Tabs (Header)

The header bar contains the tabs that switch the entire page:

TabPurposeVisibility
STAGEScreens, the fields on them, and the outputs they are mapped toHidden in Easy Mode
PRODUCE & PLAYFull composition editor — programming and designAlways
CONTROLOperator control view — show runningHidden in Control Buddy mode
NETWORKNetworked Exaplay instances — discovery, sync, and multi-client managementHidden in Client Mode and in Easy Mode

The four tabs switch views inside the one page at http://<engine-ip>:8123/; the URL does not change, and the page opens on the view chosen under Settings → Startup → Start Exaplay with (the Stage by default). Separate addresses exist only for the standalone pages: /control (the operator panel without the editor), /user (User Panels) and /monitor.

Warp, edge blend and VIOSO calibration are set up per screen inside the STAGE view. See The Stage and Projection Mapping & Warp/Blend.

The active tab is highlighted with the primary accent colour and a glowing underline.

Visibility Rules

Not every machine shows the same top-level tabs:

  • Client Mode hides the NETWORK tab, and the machine becomes read-only for show editing
  • Control Buddy Mode hides the embedded CONTROL tab from the main editor shell
  • Easy Mode hides both STAGE and NETWORK, leaving PRODUCE & PLAY and CONTROL. It also trims advanced controls inside the views that remain (clip buffers, media info, custom controls, TCP devices) and relabels some tabs. It has no switch in the Settings window: ui.easy-mode is set in the machine's config_system.json, normally as part of a turnkey install

Sub-Header Tabs (Inside PRODUCE & PLAY)

When you are in the PRODUCE & PLAY view, the sub-header below the header shows the composition tabs. Each composition is either a Timeline or a Playlist:

Composition typeWhat it shows
TimelineClip arrangement across tracks and time
PlaylistList of discrete show cues

Click any composition tab to switch to that composition's editor. The Media & Live panel sits at the bottom of the editor, below the active Timeline or Playlist.

Control View Tabs

Inside the Operator Control view (/control) a horizontal tab bar provides access to:

TabPurpose
Playback OverviewEvery composition with its transport, opacity, volume and its cues or media items — see Control View
Custom ControlsParameters pinned from the scene treeHidden in Easy Mode
TCP DevicesPJLink projectors and generic TCP device controlHidden in Easy Mode
SchedulerTime-based automatic schedulingSchedule in Easy Mode

InputsTouch, controllers, sensors and trackers as a tree, and what each one triggers — see Inputs
MonitorThe network traffic and timecode the engine receives — see Monitor
IntegrationsEverything that ships for other systems (Stream Deck, Q-SYS, Crestron …), with Download and set-up steps — see Control View
SystemThis machine (address, role, version, show file), its load, and Restart system / Shut down system

Stage View

The STAGE view is one surface — a canvas, an inspector and a content browser.

PartPurpose
CanvasOne zoomable workspace: the working tree. At the start every screen sits side by side as a card with its fields; the arrow under a screen opens it, with its outputs under it and the PCs they are plugged into at the bottom. Outputs are assigned by dragging them onto a screen. Zoom and Fit sit on the canvas, top right.
InspectorThe settings of whatever is selected — a screen, a field, an output or a PC. With nothing selected, an overview of every screen and the outputs that feed it.
Content browserProduce & Play's file browser, folded under the canvas. Drag a file, live feed or generator onto a field and it plays there.

The header carries ? (a legend), Tidy up, Preview, Outlines, Identify and Raw wall. See The Stage for the full tour.

Network View

The NETWORK view shows all Exaplay instances discovered on the local network. See Multi-Client Setup for a full guide.

Key features:

  • Systems list — auto-discovered remote Exaplay instances with UP/DOWN status
  • Copy Files — copy the sync folder contents and the current project to all online clients (streamed, resumable transfers)
  • Per-remote status — see the outcome of the last Copy Files run (syncing, ok, error) for each machine

User View Tabs

The User View (/user) shows one User Panel full-screen — the first one, or the one its readable URL names — with no tab strip. Operators move between pages only through the panel's Page Jump buttons; the page list appears only in the Panel Designer.

If no panels have been configured, the User View reads No Custom Panels.

Direct panel links can also open a single panel immediately using its readable URL, for example:
